Jesus continued, “God’s kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field for years and then accidently found by a trespasser. The finder is ecstatic – what a find! – and proceeds to sell everything he owns to raise money and buy that field.” (Matthew 13: 44)

Most of us don’t spend our days searching for hidden treasure. We answer emails, prepare lessons, support students, manage behaviour, greet families, clean classrooms, fix problems and juggle the countless moments that make up school life. It is easy to believe that the real work lies somewhere else.

Jesus sees it differently.

He reminds us that the Kingdom of God is often hidden in ordinary places, waiting to be discovered. It is found in the student who finally believes in themselves because someone refused to give up on them. It is found in the colleague who quietly offers encouragement. It is found in every act of patience, compassion and hope that reflects the love of Christ.

The challenge is not whether the treasure is there. The challenge is whether we are looking for it.

Every person in a Catholic school contributes to revealing that treasure. Whether you teach, lead, support, administer or care for the school environment, your work shapes the lives of others in ways you may never fully see.

Today, choose to notice the hidden treasure. Choose to be the person who uncovers it in someone else. The Kingdom grows every time we help another person recognise their God-given worth.
